the Vendée

Between Sea and Bocage ...

On the natural border between the Armorican Massif and the Aquitaine Basin ...

Visit our region in «Discovery and Walks» and discover our «Origin» and «History».

On the way to the most beautiful beaches in the Vendée, just 10 minutes away by car, you will pass through Angles and the wide open spaces of the Marais Poitevin with its birds, cows and bales of hay, before finally finding the smell of the pines, the warmth of the dunes and the fine sand, surfing the waves with pleasure from the large beach of Les Conches at La Terrière to La Tranche/Mer, with a view of the Charente coastline of La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré, just opposite ...

Leaving the campsite from the adjoining farm, countless footpaths criss-cross the surrounding countryside... On foot, by bike or even on horseback, you'll reach the Bocage Vendéen via the majestic forests of Givre, Moutiers and Champ St Père. Leaving the shores of Lac du Graon, you'll arrive via La Baffardière in the heart of the Yon Valley at the remarkable sites of «La Pierre aux Fées» and «Chaos de Piquet«, in the middle of the «Fiefs Vendéens» wine route of Rosnay and Mareuil/Lay... Or perhaps you'd prefer to take a leisurely stroll along the magnificent paths of the Cour d'Aron Floral Park near La Grisse, experience the excitement of tree-hopping with your family at Indian Forest, or jump into the water at O'Gliss Park, just 5 minutes away?

Returning to the coast, you will visit the dolmens and menhirs of the Bernard «Carnac Vendéen», before reaching the Forêt Domaniale de Longeville/Mer and its long beach. At the end of this coastal strip, as far as Jard/Mer, you will arrive at the Pointe du Payré, the exact geological boundary between the Aquitaine Basin and the Armorican Massif, separating the great Charentes-Aquitaine limestone plain of southern Vendée from the schistose-granitic Bocage of northern Vendée-Anjou-Bretagne. Here you will discover the magnificent Payré Estuary, a UNESCO World Heritage site, opening onto the Guitière salt marshes, then Port Bourgenay on the way to the wild coast of Les Sables d'Olonne.

Summer or winter, whatever the season, the mild climate of the South Vendée offers you the diversity of a very varied landscape and territory ...
